ABOUT ME

 Due to an unfortunate series of events, I became a single mother of two before the age of 30. I never realized how essential selfcare was to my emotional health until the day I completely fell apart. My emotional wellbeing began to reflect in my physical appearance, my energy level, and my work performance. I felt like I had no true financial resources or support that could aid in allowing me the time to selfcare and simply reset!

I decided to join fb 'Mom' groups and that is when I learned that I was not the only mom feeling mentally and emotionally drained and that it was not something I should be ashamed of. It did not mean that I did not love my children, or that I was a bad mom, it simply meant that in order for me to present the best version of myself to them, I had to allow myself time to reset to feel like I am more than just 'Mom', a domestic robot, or superwoman; I needed to be a human, a woman again and sit with my own thoughts and have time to self reflect, self evaluate and tune in to what truly makes me happy as a woman, outside of being a mother. I realized that my desire for selfcare was not selfish, it's actually common amongst many mothers, and other groups such as single fathers, or married couples on the brink of divorce; simply due to lack of romance in their marriage. 

 

There is an absence of resources offered to prevent parental burnout, yet these resources are essential to the emotional health of many parents and in turn can inadvertently prevent the possibility of a negative emotional affect to our children's wellbeing and upbringing. I am committed to being that resource to all that need it, because our parenting should be rewarded.
